金朝时，元好问到镇平县担任县令。他上任第二天，就遇到了一宗奇特的卖地案。

这天一大早，有人前来告状。

元好问接过状纸一看，状纸上写道：现有本县金家庄村民金二状告本村秀才金诗书，金诗书虽饱读圣贤之书，但不行圣贤之礼，四体不勤、五谷不分，以致家道中落，沦为赖皮。其父生前曾将村东三亩三分地以五百两纹银卖给原告金二，但其父死后，金诗书耍赖死不认账。望大人明断是非，替小民金二做主。

元好问看罢状纸问金二：“你说金诗书父亲生前把地卖给你，可有卖地契约？”

金二连忙从怀里掏出卖地契约，交给元好问。

元好问看了一遍，见契约上卖地因由、立约日期、方位面积、证人等一应俱全，急忙令衙役传来被告金诗书。

金诗书还不知出了什么事，一到县衙大堂，对元好问轻施一礼，问：“不知大人唤生员到此有何见教？”

元好问说出金二状告他的事由。

金诗书就斯斯文文地辩解：“非也，非也，子虚乌有，子虚乌有！夫子曰‘唯女子与小人为难养也！’此等下作小人之语，岂可信乎？”

元好问看着金诗书酸溜溜的作派，心中暗笑，下令金二的几位证人到堂。在堂上，证人们都说金二状纸上说的是实情，咬定是金诗书想赖账，甚至还嘲笑金诗书，说他根本就不知道自己这块地在哪儿！

元好问眉头一皱，问金诗书：“你家的这块地究竟在哪儿？”

金诗书眼珠子翻了半天，才犹豫地说在村南。

他的话引来哄堂大笑：众乡邻全都知道，状纸上也写得明明白白，那三亩三分地在村东，金诗书却把自家的地说成了在村南，说明这小子确实是在信口胡说！

元好问一拍惊堂木，喝道：“大胆，竟敢在大堂上糊弄本官！人证物证俱在，你还有何话说？”

元好问的惊堂木一响，吓跑了金诗书的“之乎者也”。他连忙“扑通”跪下，大呼冤枉，并结结巴巴地说出事情的始末。

金诗书从小闭门读书，中了秀才之后，更是“两耳不闻窗外事”，从不下地干活，全靠老父亲下地耕作养活。金诗书还说，他听父亲说起过，邻居金二看中了他们家的三亩三分地，但老父亲一直到死都不曾变卖祖宗留下的田产。如今这份契约一定是假的。

原告人证物证俱在，被告则大呼冤枉，至此，这宗卖地案成了棘手的“闷葫芦案”。元好问眉头紧皱，他寻思自己既名“好问”，何不问上几问？于是他命人把金诗书等人暂且带下，单单留下原告金二。

元好问客气地请金二坐下，和颜悦色地与金二拉家常。金二见新来的县令爷没有一点官架子，预感自己不但能赢得土地，而且会赢得特有面子。

元好问与金二说东道西，净问些不相干的事儿。突然，他状似随意地问金二：“按照当地规矩，交割地契那天你家一定吃过酒席吧？”

金二点头，说置田买地是大事，置办酒席天经地义。

元好问又问证人是否全部都请到了。

金二说：“一个都不少。”元好问听了直夸金二办事有条有理，绝不是胡搅蛮缠、惹是生非之辈。

接着，元好问又让证人一个一个进来单独问话。他态度和蔼、笑容可掬，都问些鸡毛蒜皮、不痛不痒的事儿。不过所有回答，都让师爷一一记录在案。

元好问问完话，重新升堂断案。众人突然看到，在县衙大堂正中间端端正正地摆了一张八仙桌，周围放了几把椅子。大家都在心里犯嘀咕：莫非县令爷今天要在大堂上请客？请谁呢？

这时，元好问微微一笑，开口说话了：“本案断到这一步，已经接近尾声，真相即将水落石出。本官今天兴致很高，特地在大堂上专设一席，款待原告、证人，大家辛苦了！”

元好问说到这里，大堂上一阵骚动，金二一帮人欢天喜地，互相道贺;而金诗书则大呼冤枉。

正在这时，只听一声惊堂木响，人们静了下来。只见元好问霎时变了脸色，厉声对金二一帮人说道：“卖地契约上的日期，离今日不远。原告、证人对那天的酒席上的事想必记得清清楚楚。现在就请诸位按照刚才自己说的座位入席，师爷已经记录在案，谁坐错席位，本官定公事公办，严惩不贷！”

这时大堂内外已经围满了看热闹的人们，好戏开始了。只见大堂上金二一干人在那里抓耳挠腮，不知如何是好，好不容易下了决心，却又出现了几个人抢一个座位的混乱场面。

元好问不动声色地向金二问道：“金二啊，那天你就是这样待客的？”

大堂内外响起了一片哄笑声。

金二头上早已冒出了黄豆大的汗珠子，他一看纸包不住火，连忙“扑通”一声跪倒在大堂上，大呼：“老爷饶命、老爷饶命啊！”接着便招认了自己与同伙的罪行。

原来，金二早就对金诗书家的三亩三分地垂涎三尺，千方百计地想骗过来。前些日子，他见金诗书老父亲一命归西，金诗书又昏昏然不理正事，就与一群酒肉朋友合谋，伪造了一份卖地契约。金二本想趁着新县令刚刚到任，来个浑水摸鱼，谁知道元好问不露声色，设席问案，三问两问就使他露出了马脚。

元好问秉公依法惩办了金二一伙，也为金诗书主持了公道。现场百姓无不拍手称快。

金诗书再三谢过了元好问后，仍迟迟不肯离开大堂。他站在大堂磨磨蹭蹭想了半天，才对元好问说：“大人断案，如日月经天，明镜高悬，使生员自愧弗如，感触良多！思虑再三，赠大人一联，望大人不吝赐教。”接着，他摇头晃脑地吟诵起来，“元好问有学问贵哉敏学好问。”

元好问一笑，不假思索地对出了下联：“金诗书喜读书惜乎饱读诗书！”
