但是，已经太晚了，爸爸进到狗窝，抓了四只小狗，胖胖的，小小的，“呜呜“叫着。爸爸把它们装进了一只塑料编织袋中，系紧了袋口。几只小狗挤来挤去，袋子一会儿这边鼓起一块，一会儿那边鼓一块。

爸爸把这四只出生还不到一个月的小狗放入了水中，再加上一块重重的石头，石头压着它们幼小的身子，它们浮不起来了。看着这一切，我含着眼泪，呆呆地站着，此时，我听到了从水中传出来的小狗的哭声，仿佛在喊：“我不要死，我要和妈妈在一起。”大约过了20分钟，编织袋中的小狗不再争扎了，爸爸把它们拎了上来，这时水烧开了，爸爸把四只小狗放入滚烫的开水泡了五分钟左右，三下五除二把它们柔软的毛给拔光了……

接着，爸爸用刀剖开了小狗的肚皮，取出了内脏……

最后外婆用菜刀把小狗切成一小块一小块的，放进了高压锅慢慢熬……

中国烹食狗肉的历史由来已久，特别在南方特别又是在两广尤甚。夏至吃狗肉是岭南一带人的专利。当地流传着这样一种说法，称夏至这天吃狗肉能祛邪补身，抵御瘟疫等。“吃了夏至狗，西风绕道走”，大意是人只要在夏至日这天吃了狗肉，其身体就能抵抗西风恶雨的入侵，少感冒，身体好。正是基于这一良好愿望，成就了“夏至狗肉”这一独特的民间饮食文化。

唯一与民间传统不同的是，随着人们生活水平的不断提高，家家户户在夏至日杀狗的景致今天已不复存在。然而，家家户户吃狗肉的习惯依然如故，区别只在于买吃的比杀吃的多。广东人素有喜吃狗肉之习，阳江地区尤甚。而据有关资料记载，夏至杀狗补身，相传源于战国时期秦德公即位次年，六月酷热，疫疠流行。秦德公便按“狗为阳畜，能辟不祥”之说，命令臣民杀狗避邪，后来形成夏至杀狗的习俗。“立夏日，吃补食”的民谣，也说明补食从立夏就开始了。

民间有“夏至狗，没路走”的俗语，意思是夏至这天，许多狗被杀掉，没路可逃。民间说法是，狗肉性温，大补元气，属性燥热，仅适宜秋冬季节食用，夏天吃狗肉会上火，外热加上内热，对身体不利。但夏至这天例外，夏至这天吃了狗肉，不但不会热气，不会对身体引起不适，反而会对身体有益。
