保护城市历史文化遗产的意义何在？

李秉毅介绍说，城市历史文化遗产保护的意义主要有4个方面：历史研究_历史文化价值、科学研究_科学价值、发展旅游_经济价值及可持续发展。我们首先从历史研究着眼，来看待城市文化价值。

城市文化遗产是城市历史发展的见证，是城市历史研究的重要依据。研究城市、人类发展历史，借古明今，有利于促进城市发展。

在历史科学研究进程中人们发现，历史古城、建筑、构筑物（如中国的赵州桥、都江堰，埃及的金字塔）等有很深奥的科学道理，有的甚至是现在人们还不清楚的科学理论，保护历史文化遗产，尤其是保护凝聚了3000多年历史文化的中国历史文化遗产，对科学研究有重要的意义。

李秉毅说，正是这些人类前进中创造的城市文化遗产，为我们的城市发展提供了良好的条件_发展城市旅游业，用经济价值去直观地表现城市历史文化的独特魅力，有利于更好地发展城市。中国5000多年的历史文化遗产丰富而迷人，它吸引着无数的中国人，更让外国人向往，这些都是发展城市旅游业的重要资源，也是人们游憩、观光、获得美的享受的重要场所。小小的周庄（小镇），年旅游收入达2亿元，增长率也是惊人的。

随着经济水平的提高，旅游业所带来的收益不断提高，旅游在国民经济中的比例不断增长。我国城市历史文化旅游的潜力很大。我国张掖市比日本的高山市的历史文化遗产丰富得多、有价值得多，然而，我国张掖市的旅游收入占国内生产值的比例却比日本的高山市低得多，张掖市不到10%，而日本的高山市在70%以上。
