要注意的是，经验不是知识，或者说不等同于知识。知识明显是要高于经验的，这是毋庸置疑的。从经验所得的许多要点使人产生对这一类事物的普遍判断，这样的普遍判断如果正确就可以称之为知识了。

然而从短期来看，经验的持有者在业务上甚至比拥有持有知识者更为成功。这是不足为奇的，理由是：经验是个别的，知识是上升为理论的，是普遍的。举一个实例，这就像是一个电学家在修电线方面或许还比不上一个电路工人。

但是，我们认为知识持有者较之经验持有者更富有智慧。因为二者都知其然，但前者知其所以然，而后者则不知。我也认为最近备受推崇的大国工匠的确要比普通的匠人更应受到尊重，他们知道自己举手投足的原因。而普通工匠凭习惯性动作，或只是他人对于表面现象的传授。毫不客气地说，这与非生物的动作的相似。进行各自的机能活动，对此是不知其所以然的。

所以，与经验相比较，知识往往更为珍贵。

那么如何才能高效的获得知识，而不是陷入经验主义的泥潭。这不是一个无聊的或者远离实际问题，因为事实上我们就该由此反思。

如《农库全书》，《天工开物》……这一类代表了中国古代科技水平的作品，往往被冠以经验主义之名。原因或许会令人大跌眼镜，那便是我们或者说我们的先辈太务实，太勤劳了。

就从早期哲学家的历史来看，也可以明白，真正的智慧不是简简单单的制造学术。请注意，在这里，我并没有否定生产力对于历史发展的绝对作用。相反的，是在探讨其出现的先决条件，即智慧与知识。

古往今来人们开始各种各样的探索，都应起源为对自然万物的惊异。当然，还有一小部分起源于人的动物本能。即吃，喝，睡，繁殖。当然，这些是一切的开始，但其不能使人类成为人类。

那么回到现世，我认为对于知识的求索或许更应该不计回报。因为那些各种有形的事业，往往使人陷入经验主义。而知识，或者说方法是能够应用于所有事物的。否则，便不能称之为方法了。最精确的学术往往离感觉和现实最近，也最难广而用之。从珠宝镶嵌到花草工艺，这些只是一些微末伎俩。而离感觉何时越远越远，越重推理与思考的学术往往能带来真正的社会大变革。从人文科学到自然科学，而这些却具有普世意义。

值得反思与借鉴的是，对于智慧的追逐不应带有功利性。正如号称第一学术的哲学，便是学术的学术。不然，如果只是为了务实而追求知识，人还是动物；如果是为了追求知识而追求知识，人才是真正的人。
