Murder on the Orient Express

《Murder on the Orient Express》

《Murder on the Orient Express》

《Murder on the Orient Express》读后感(三):Mass Murder

A tragedy happened years ago, a train carrying 12 murders, 1 victim, 1 genius detective, are there a link? What's the clue? Who is the key?

I got lost in the middle of the story. Maybe it's because I read it intermittently, or I should just confess the truth that I am not that smart at all. Hercule Poirot, THE great detective, based on the lies told by every single one, worked the case out all by pondering over his mind. How he did it, the great Ms Agatha Christie left much for the readers to speculate.

However, this didn't interest me much more than the justice issue involved. As it turns out in the end, 12 people who more or less are related to the disastrous family each stabbed the wicked kidnapper, who died as a result of the revenge. But apart from the normality or morality, 12 so-called jury members performed their private death penalty on the Oriental Express, stead of the grand court. Do they have the right to end a person's life? Should Mr. Poirot turn them in to the police? The book gave the answer, and left the reader to justify his decision.

As to me, after turning the last page of the book, I can’t help wondering, if ever I encountered such moral dilemma, what will I do? This reminded me of the news of the Yao Jiaxin case happened months ago. If ever Yao's parents knew that their son would be sentenced to death, will they turn him in? There is no "if". Therefore, I am not able to give a straight answer. Ever a sociology student, I have long learned that there is no absolute "Right" and "Wrong". During the decision making process, factors both expected and unexpected will play some parts. So, why bother to answer a hypothetical question? Let me make the decision when the time comes.
