爷爷出生在解放时期，家里兄弟姐妹多，成年劳力少，能够保证全家不饿肚子都不是一件容易的事，哪里还能奢求读书？太爷爷从莆田老家移民到邵武，在那里是一穷二白，无根无基，生活极其艰难。那时候的学费是一小袋米，要是放在家里加上红薯、南瓜，可以供一家人生活好一些时间。

爷爷上学的时间并不长，随着弟妹们的长大，上学两年之后，太爷爷再也无力承受子女的学费。迫于生活的压力，爷爷不得不辍学到煤矿当名背工。直到现在，爷爷还常给我们讲述他儿时的艰辛，对上学读书的向往。

等到我爸爸上学的时候，时值党的十一届三中全会在北京召开，改革开放的序幕刚刚拉开。爷爷带着我爸爸到学校报名上学的时候，一年级的学费是一块五。虽然那时还是凭工分分粮，吃饭不能足额保障，爷爷还是让爸爸姐弟三人都上了学。

到分田到户时，爷爷把自己在外辛苦打拼下的家从邵武迁回老家。他在外面做工，奶奶在家里种田。我们家的生活逐渐有了起色。八十年代中期，爷爷又到北方做起了木材生意。在国家政策的大力支持下，那时个体工商户发展迅速，我家的日子越过越红火。从那以后，爸爸再也没有为学费发过愁，无论是小学的几十块，还是初中的上百块，他总是按时上交给学校。

我是上21世纪初出生的新一代。生活在这个时代，过着丰衣足食的幸福生活，不知道苦为何物。到了我上学的时候，国家已实行了九年制义务教学，不用交学费了，近几年连课本费也免了。我每天从学校回来，做完了作业爸爸妈妈允许我看看电视，上上网，让我开阔视野，感受社会的发展。
