The Great Gatsby

《The Great Gatsby》是一本由F.

《The Great Gatsby》

Such narrative is what The Great Gatsby outdistances its contemporary literature.

《The Great Gatsby》

《The Great Gatsby》读后感(三):The great American literature

和U.S.A.

《The Great Gatsby》读后感(四):Gatsby’s American dream

When I finished reading this novel the great Gatsby, some questions jumped out of my mind immediately. What was Gatsby’s American dream? Why Gatsby changed his name? Did Gatsby really love Daisy? Why Gatsby tried his best to become a moneyed man, and then pursued Daisy?

At first I was confused what the definition of American dream is. So I turned to Google for help. It told me that the American Dream is an idea which suggests that all people can succeed through hard work, and that all people have the potential to live happy, successful lives.

In my opinion, Gatsby’s American dream is to be a moneyed man, to get Daisy’s love again, most of all, to be a real upper crust. I thought he doesn’t love Daisy actually. In Gatsby’s subconscious, Daisy was just a symbol, a symbol of a superior social class, a delicate way of life. He knew it clearly that only to marry a woman like Daisy who rich, have a good background, and be well-educated can he became a real upper crust, and he thought money and power can help him to become strong, to win back Daisy, to make his dream come true. So he set up his ambition. At first, he became a moneyed man by all means. He did all the business which can earn a large amount of money. Second, he tried to transform his family background. He changed his name, when Gatsby met Daisy at the first time, he did not name Gatsby, and his name was James Gatz. Why would he abandon his formal name, deny his past, and change his name? Because he hates his poor family background, he was eager to get rid of it. He wanted to be a real upper crust desperately. Third, he built up his education background. He cheated Nick that he was graduated from Yale; and he tried to be a kind, gentle, and well-educated man in front of people. All the things he did were to hide his sense of inferiority. And during this novel, we can see that Gatsby always calls Nick as old sports. It showed that he was a vulgar man in deep. He thought he was doing well, and others would pay respect to him. But didn't know he was always cheating himself.

As far as I’m concerned, Gatsby was lost in his great, fantastic, and ambitious dream. If he didn’t pursue daisy at the very beginning, he would not be murdered. There is a saying goes that never lose in our beautiful dream. During the way of pursuing our dream, the significant thing was not realize our dreams, but to select a way which was the most meaningful for us. But Gatsby couldn’t understand it; he was lost in his American dream for good.

Maybe If Gatsby was not eager to be a real upper crust, he would live happily enough. He would marry a normal woman, do some normal job, and live a normal but happy life.

《The Great Gatsby》读后感(五):Broken Dreams, Permanent Soul

Considered as “an elegy of the Jazz Age ”, The Great Gatsby raised waves deeply in my heart. To be honest,I read the Chines version of this book several years ago. However, this time I have a totally different understanding.

Gatsby, the hero of the novel, lost his heart to a wealthy and vain woman,Daisy when he was young. But he was too poor to marry her at that time.Five years passing,he became very wealthy by doing illegal business, but Daisy had married another rich man,Tom.To catch the attention of Daisy,Gatsby held grand parties at his house and managed to meet Daisy again, who was more than delighted to see how rich Gatsby was and fell in love with him. However, when Gatsby insisted Daisy claim her love to him and depart from her husband,Daisy didn't act as Gatsby expected,in that she was afraid to lose the shelter of her rich husband.Loving Daisy so deeply, Gatsby, though, didn’t realize that what Daisy loved was just his wealth. After Daisy killed a woman by car accident,Gatsby bore the accusation and finally, lost his life for love.

When I was a child,I regarded Gatsby as a stupid man who lost all he had just because a selfish and vain woman. After reading the book by heart this time,I admire Gatsby for his sincerity and dedication. To pursue the ideal love,he poured determined efforts to become rich, trying hard to narrow the distance between him and Daisy. Compared with others,Gatsby is a great person with beautiful dreams, infinite hope and unconventional grace.“If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life, as if he were related to one of those intricate machines that register earthquakes ten thousand miles away.”said Nick.

In the end of the story, nobody came to Gatsby’s funeral, which reflects the apathy of the world and snobbishness of people. The life of Gatsby seems a tragedy, but the tragedy exactly shows his precious virtue. His dreams are broken, while his spirit is everlasting.

From my perspective,Daisy stands for dreams that we struggle for.She is beautiful but unreachable, for which we must make great efforts. It is likely that we may never achieve them.Yet I hold the opinion that we should never quit before the barriers. On the way to our ideal palace,we may fall, get injured and lose many of what we own. However, only when we are struggling, are our heart full of hope and happiness. Only that means that we are really alive.

The novel serves as a good reminder of another story about Icarus, who ruined himself when get closed to his dream, the sun.Not that he isn’t aware of the danger, but that the eager to fly high made he give up his life.In reality, usually we needn’t pay such a high cost, but a number of people, are blow hot and cold when confronted with difficultites. They may never have a opportunity to enjoy the passion when trying to realize our dreams.

“ Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us.”My dear friends, please chase what you want bravely! As we pursue,so are we alive. No matter what we get at last,it is what we do that makes who we are.Even if Gatsby ended with a pity, his spirit is always shining, encouraging us to love what we love.
