飞来石消失了，但飞来石是何等模样，很少有人说得清楚。飞来石下宽上窄，长约13.8米，高9.4米，厚约1.1米。石上镌刻有长1.6米、宽0.8米的模式匡幅，内刻“飞云翥鹤”四个楷书大字，系明万历年间（1573-1620年）郡守李承露题写，其书隽秀酣畅，右有草书数行，因风化严重已剥蚀不清。

1985年3月，绵阳市（县级）人民政府公布为文物保护单位。“飞云翥鹤”四字曾用红漆涂饰，特别醒目。
